Are You Secretly Ruining Your Cookware Every Day?

Good cookware doesn’t fail overnight.

Most of the time, it’s small daily habits that slowly ruin a pan, usually without us realising.

The good news?
A few simple changes can add years to your cookware’s life.
Here’s what we see most often, and how to fix it.

❌ Mistake 1: Using Metal Utensils on Non-Stick Pans

Metal utensils can scratch non-stick coatings, causing food to stick and the pan to wear out faster. Even small, repeated scrapes add up over time. To prevent this, use wooden, silicone, or nylon utensils and avoid cutting food directly in the pan.

❌ Mistake #2: Overheating an Empty Pan

Heating a pan empty, especially on high heat, can warp the base, damage the non-stick coating, and lead to uneven heating over time. This often happens when people preheat on maximum heat. To prevent it, preheat on low to medium heat and add oil or food within 30–60 seconds. If the pan starts smoking before anything goes in, it’s already too hot.

❌ Mistake #3: Cleaning While the Pan Is Still Hot

Rinsing or scrubbing a hot pan can cause thermal shock, leading to warping, damaged coatings, and reduced durability. To avoid this, let the pan cool naturally and clean it when it’s warm, not hot. This is especially important for stainless steel and non-stick pans.

❌ Mistake #4: Using the Wrong Cleaning Method

Harsh scrubbers and strong detergents can damage ceramic coatings and scratch the surface. To keep your pan in top condition, use a soft sponge with mild dish soap, avoid steel wool or abrasive powders, and gently clean stuck-on food without harsh scrubbing.

❌ Mistake #5: Scraping Burnt Food Aggressively

Hard scraping can damage a ceramic pan’s surface and edges. To safely remove burnt residue, add warm water and a drop of dish soap, simmer gently for 3–5 minutes, let it cool, then wipe clean. No force needed.

Taking simple care steps, like using gentle utensils, avoiding high heat when empty, and cleaning carefully, can keep your ceramic pan performing like new and make cooking easier and more enjoyable for years.
